Bio: Rod was born and raised in Jackson, Mississippi and is a 1970 graduate of the University of Mississippi, where he received a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with a major in Accounting and a Masters Degree in Business Administration. After serving two years in the Army, he accepted a position with KPMG in Jackson, Mississippi, where he worked as a member of the firm’s income tax department for three years. After leaving KPMG, he worked for a Jackson-based family business that was involved in all phases of the real estate business. Over the next thirteen years, he was responsible for internal accounting and reporting and income tax preparation for over fifty related individuals, corporations, partnerships, trusts and estates. After subsequently operating his own accounting practice for almost two years, he joined Tann, Brown & Russ Co., PLLC as a partner in 1986.

As a partner with the Firm, Rod’s clients have included, among others, residential and commercial real estate developers, home builders, retirement communities, private foundations, ministers, oil and gas operators, farming enterprises, advertising firms and professional firms practicing law, medicine and architecture, as well as individuals and their various closely-held businesses. Additionally he maintains a high level of involvement in the firm’s trust and estate practice.

Rod is a member of Pear Orchard Presbyterian Church, where he serves as an Elder. He is a member of the boards of trustees of Christ Covenant School, Reformed Theological Seminary and One Story Ministries, Inc., and he also served as treasurer of Mississippi Valley Presbytery for ten years.

Bio: Burdette was born and raised in Jackson, Mississippi and is a 1973 graduate of the University of Mississippi, where he received a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with a major in Accounting and a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics. After graduation, he accepted a position with KPMG in Memphis, Tennessee and worked in the firm’s audit practice for thirteen years. In 1986, he returned to Jackson, Mississippi, joining Tann, Brown & Russ Co., PLLC as a partner.

As an audit partner with the Firm, Burdette has provided tax and auditing services to a wide-ranging clientele. His clients have included individuals and closely-held companies with interests in a number of different industries, including manufacturing and distribution, construction, real estate development and entertainment; as well as working with numerous nonprofit organizations and employee benefit plans. Additionally, he serves as the Firm’s Quality Control Partner and is responsible for the Firm’s Peer Review Program and for implementing the Firm’s Quality Controls. Burdette has served for a number of years on various nonprofit boards and advisory councils and is a current member of the Rotary Club of Jackson. As an active church member, he has served as both treasurer and as a member of the church’s finance committee. He has also been active in various committees of the Mississippi Society of CPAs. Burdette is licensed to practice in Mississippi and Tennessee and is a member of both State Societies as well as the American Institute of CPAs.

Bio: Richard was born and raised in Jackson, Mississippi and is a 1976 graduate of the University of Mississippi, where he received Bachelor and Master of Business Administration degrees with a major in Accounting. Following graduation, he accepted a position with KPMG in Jackson, Mississippi and worked in the firm’s tax department for eight years, during which time he was promoted to Senior Tax Manager. In 1984, he resigned his position at KPMG to become the Assistant Treasurer for Deposit Guaranty Corporation, with specific responsibilities in the Corporation’s Bank Acquisition sector. After two years employment with Deposit Guaranty Corporation, he joined Tann, Brown & Russ Co., PLLC as a partner in August, 1986.

As a tax partner with the Firm, Richard’s practice has covered a wide-ranging clientele, offering broad expertise in individual, corporate and partnership taxation and also in estate and gift planning. His tax clients come from such diverse areas as farming, cattle, timber, oil and gas, medical practices, law practices, closely-held companies, construction, manufacturing and pension and profit-sharing plans, as well as from a variety of other businesses and industries. Richard has also served as an expert witness, testifying in court with regard to accounting issues, business valuations, family law and other matters. Richard is active in community and professional organizations, having served as treasurer and member of the board of trustees for the Mississippi Tax Institute, treasurer and member of the board of trustees for Jackson Preparatory School Foundation, board member for Twin Lakes Foundation and member of the board of trustees for First Presbyterian Day School. Additionally, he has been an active member at First Presbyterian Church of Jackson, Mississippi for many years, while also serving as Elder, Past Chairman and Treasurer of the Board of Deacons.

Bio: Walter was born and raised in Grenada, Mississippi and graduated from John Rundle High School in 1970. He attended the University of Mississippi and received a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with a major in Accounting in 1974. After graduating from Ole Miss, he accepted a position with a local CPA firm in Greenwood, Mississippi and worked with the firm for four years. In 1978, he moved to Jackson, Mississippi and joined Tann, Brown & Russ Co., PLLC as a senior accountant. He became a partner with the Firm in 1983.

As an audit and tax partner, Walter has developed a significant individual income tax practice while also working with a broad-based business clientele covering such areas as construction, agribusinesses, forestry, trucking, retail sales, computer technology, retirement plans, nonprofit organizations, municipalities and various other governmental entities. He has also served as an expert witness on a number of occasions in court cases involving such issues as municipal annexation, family law and civil arson defense. Walter is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Mississippi Society of Certified Public Accountants. He has served as a board member of several nonprofit organizations and as a political campaign treasurer. He was also an appointed member of the Capital City Commission, which was established in the early-1990’s for the purpose of conducting an in-depth study of the City of Jackson’s finances. Walter and his wife Susan are members of First Presbyterian Church of Jackson.

Bio: Joey was born and raised in Tchula, Mississippi and is a 1978 graduate of the University of Mississippi, where he received a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with a major in Accounting. After graduation, he accepted a position with Deposit Guaranty National Bank in Jackson, Mississippi and worked in the bank’s management training program for two years. He joined Tann, Brown & Russ Co., PLLC as a staff accountant in 1980 and became a partner in 1990. As an audit partner with the Firm, Joey’s clients have included, among others, construction contractors, multi-family housing projects, retirement communities, nonprofit organizations, and various government agencies and entities at both the state and local levels. Additionally, he manages the Firm’s GAAP Packet practice under which accounting assistance and financial reporting is regularly provided to various state agencies throughout the State of Mississippi. Joey currently serves as partner in charge of the Firm’s litigation and forensic accounting services practice. He has published multiple articles in the Mississippi Society of CPAs monthly publication, “The CPA Newsletter”, and has served as a speaker on forensic accounting topics at conferences and seminars in Mississippi, Tennessee, Louisiana and Florida. He has handled over 300 litigation support and insurance claims engagements in such areas as lost profits, business interruption, personal injury and wrongful death, wrongful termination, family law, employee fraud and financial motive in civil arson, and he has testified as an expert witness in Chancery and Circuit Courts in Mississippi, in Parish Judicial District Court in Louisiana, and in U.S. District Courts for both the Northern and Southern Districts of Mississippi. Additionally, he has been a member of the MSCPA’s Business Valuation & Litigation Services Committee since 2003, including serving as committee chairman from 2012 to 2014. Joey is active in community organizations, having served for a number of years as a volunteer Boy Scout leader and a tournament team fast pitch softball coach. Bio: Allen is a native of Greenwood, Mississippi and a 1985 graduate of the University of Mississippi, where he received a Bachelor of Accountancy degree. He has over twenty-five years experience in public accounting with three different firms, having worked with local firms both in his hometown of Greenwood and in Nashville, Tennessee, prior to moving to Jackson, Mississippi and accepting a position with Tann, Brown & Russ Co., PLLC.

Since joining the firm in 1990 and becoming a partner in 1995, Allen has concentrated his practice on income tax and estate tax issues. His clients include individuals and closely-held businesses representing a wide variety of industries, such as medical, law and other professional practices, construction, real estate, timber, entertainment and not-for-profit organizations. He has significant experience in working with corporations, partnerships, limited liability companies, trusts and estates and in advising clients on choice of entity matters for both new and ongoing businesses, evaluating businesses for purchase and/or sale decisions, and providing a variety of other business planning services. Allen is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Mississippi Society of Certified Public Accountants. Allen is involved in various community organizations in the Jackson area, including currently serving as treasurer for Gateway Rescue Mission and as a volunteer Boy Scout leader. Bio: Scott is a 1992 graduate of Mississippi College, where he received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree with a major in Accounting. He joined Tann, Brown & Russ Co., PLLC as a staff accountant in 1992 and became a partner in the firm in 2008. As an audit partner, Scott’s clients have included, among others, insurance companies, construction contractors, manufacturers, not-for-profit organizations and state and local governmental entities and political subdivisions. Additionally, he provides a wide range of tax and consulting services to individuals, closely-held businesses, non-profits and governmental entities. Scott is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Mississippi Society of Certified Public Accountants, the Association of Government Accountants, and the Government Finance Officers Association. He also holds the Certified Government Financial Manager (CGFM) credential, which is awarded to financial professionals who demonstrate significant expertise and experience in governmental finance and accounting. Scott resides with his wife, Cheri, in Clinton, Mississippi, where he is active in a variety of community organizations. He has served as president, treasurer and board member for his neighborhood homeowners association and is an active member of his church, having served as president and in various other positions on the church council and board of elders.

Bio: Weston was born and raised in Jackson, Mississippi and is a 2001 graduate of the University of Mississippi, where he received Bachelor of Accountancy and Masters of Taxation degrees.  Following graduation, he accepted a position with Arthur Andersen in Memphis, TN. Weston then accepted a position with Deloitte & Touche in Memphis, TN and worked in the firm’s tax department for two years. In 2004, he resigned his position at Deloitte & Touche to join Tann, Brown & Russ Co.

Since joining the firm in 2004 and becoming partner in 2011, Weston’s practice has covered a wide-ranging clientele, including individual, corporate and partnership taxation, as well as estate and gift planning. His tax clients include such diverse areas as real estate, farming, cattle, timber, oil and gas, medical practices, law practices, closely-held companies, construction, manufacturing, restaurant, entertainment, and various other areas of taxation.  Additionally, Weston received his CVA (Certified Valuation Analyst) credential in 2010 and has performed various business valuations for estate and gift tax planning as well as buy-sell agreements. Weston is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Mississippi Society of Certified Public Accountants, and the National Association of Certified Valuation Analysts.

Weston resides with his wife, Amy-Allison and their two sons in Jackson, MS. He is active in community organizations, currently serving as a Deacon of First Presbyterian Church.
